| |  |  | | | | | | |  | |  | | | | | | | | | | | | UN Assembly listens to claims on Cuban antiterrorists The international claim for the release of the five Cuban fighters against terrorism incarcerated in the USA was broached today in the UN General Assembly by its president Miguel D'Escoto.
In a speech delivered last Tuesday, with which his 1-year mandate in the UN top body came to an end, the former prime minister from Nicaragua stated that the incarceration of the Cuban Five was despised worldwide. Before the final plenary of the 63rd Period of Sessions of the General Assembly, D'Escoto expressed that the imprisonment for eleven years of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez y Rene Gonzalez is unjust and arbitrary.
D'Escoto also stated that these men were convicted to lingering sentences in the United States for having discovered in Miami terrorist plans against our heroic and supportive Republic of Cuba.
He explained that in spite of the fact that everything was properly informed to the authorities of our host country (of the United Nations, USA), the response was to imprison them.
However, he affirmed that with the extol change of policy and overhauling of the new brand government of the host country, this situation is expected to be rectified.
Finally, he highlighted this awkward situation causes suffering to the families of the Five and tarnishes the image of the United States that his new president is set on improving.
