Asunto: Let's Make the Convergence at the Border Happen!

Dear Eladio ,

Just a few days ago, you received a message from María Luisa and I about our experience on the recent delegation to the U.S./Mexico border. We hoped to paint a picture what continued border militarization looks like, as well as highlight the work of various communities and organizations as they resist the impacts of destructive border security and immigration policies. We feel it is important to give context to where we will organize our first Convergence at the Border in Nogales this October 7-10.

Over the past couple days, we have received an incredible out-pour of responses to our report-back, and many of you have expressed gratitude and solidarity. Many of you have expressed your commitment being present in Nogales - some of you have even confirmed that you will be bringing vans and buses of students, labor organizers and veterans, which is an incredible show of grassroots power! Many of you have asked us how you can best support this convergence, and we took this question to heart.

In April we launched our border convergence campaign and have reached 30% of our $125,000 goal thanks to grassroots supporters like you! Making the border convergence a reality depends on all of us, and we still need your support! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation and help us spread our message by passing this email on to your friends and family.

Since the delegation, our small group of delegates have returned to their communities - Phoenix, San Fransisco, Des Moines, Ithaca, Nashville, Ypsilanti, Notre Dame, Saratoga Springs, Boston and Washington, DC. They returned with a committment to educate and mobilize their communities for Nogales this October. Over the past 6 weeks, they have been planning fund raisers, benefit concerts, reaching out to their networks to endorse the convergence, joined the various working groups to plan the convergence, giving talks at universities, and reaching out to students to join us in Nogales, and of course, donated to our campaign. Our small group has been busy! Just imagine what the mobilizing power of SOA Watch could be if all of us did the same? I have no doubt that SOA Watch is about movement building and will mobilize for Nogales the same way we have shown up for justice at the gates of Ft. Benning for the past 25 years.

We must continue to stand up against oppressive policies that contribute to the countless deaths and mass migration from Latin America to the U.S. We truly are grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you in Nogales this October!

In Peace and Solidarity,

Kat
