Time is flying and we are less than three months away from our 2nd binational Border Encuentro, which will be held in Eloy-Tucson-ambos Nogales this November 10-12. As various coalition groups and allies come together to plan for the weekend, we are excited to share some updates, and offer ways to plug in to the organizing efforts.
After 26 years of protest at the gates of Ft. Benning to call for a closure of the notorious School of the Americas, renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), we invite you to join us for the 2nd SOA Watch Border Encuentro to challenge U.S. imperialism and racism at the U.S./Mexico border from November 10-12.
As you know, we moved our annual event to the U.S./Mexico border to highlight U.S. intervention in Latin America as a root cause of migration, and to visibilize the expansion of the violent U.S. border militarization regime throughout Mexico and Central America.
Check out our promo video:

Endorse the Encuentro! This year's Border Encuentro is a direct response to the call for solidarity with border communities to resist militarization, support refugees and migrants, and to denounce the U.S. military, political and economic policies in Latin America that create the conditions for forced displacement and violence. To generate the biggest possible impact, it is important to build a strong coalition of groups to make the Encuentro a success and to challenge the oppressive systems that perpetuate U.S. imperialism, militarization, and racism. If your organization or collective is interested in endorsing the Encuentro, you can do so here.
VolunteerVolunteers have been an integral part of grassroots organizing within SOA Watch, and this year is no exception. Many hands are needed and throughout the course of the weekend, over 100 volunteers will contribute a few hours of their time to make this year's Encuentro possible. If you plan on joining us this year and are interested in volunteering for a couple of hours, you can sign up here.
Fundraise or DonateIf you are interested in raising funds for this year's Encuentro and would like to host a local event in your community, please contact Kat and Candice. Please consider making a donation - any amount is a great contribution to our work! This is a people power-led movement, and over 85% of our funding comes from individual donations from people like YOU!
