Siguiendo los pasos de Brasil, el Gobierno Argentino de la presidenta Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, anunció el lunes 6/12, que "reconoce a Palestina como un Estado libre e independiente". Una declaración que, tal como lo señaló el comunicado de la cancillería argentina, "se busca transmitir el interés de nuestro país en que se logre un avance definitivo en materia de paz". Durante el anuncio, el Gobierno argentino "comparte con sus socios del Mercosur, Uruguay y Brasil, que ha llegado el momento de reconocer a Palestina como un Estado libre e independiente". Así mismo, "Argentina declaró su firme oposición a las políticas de asentamientos en los territorios palestinos ocupados llevadas a cabo por las autoridades de Israel", destacó el comunicado de la Cancillería, que señala además, que el reconocimiento refleja "el creciente consenso sobre el estatus de Palestina". Sin embargo, en el comunicado no se hizo alusión a Jerusalén, capital palestina ocupada desde 1967.
En las relaciones diplomáticas de ambos países, Palestina abrió en 1996 la primera misión diplomática en Buenos Aires, a cargo del embajador Suhail Hani Daher Akel, quien inauguró el edificio propio de la primera Embajada de Palestina el 15 de noviembre de 1999. Por su lado, Argentina por Decreto del presidente Néstor Kirchner, en septiembre de 2005, anunció la apertura de una representación diplomática Argentina en Palestina, abierta finalmente en 2008 en Ramallah.

Following the passages of Brazil, the Argentine Government of president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, announced on Monday 6/12, that "recognizing Palestine like a free and independent State". A declaration that, as it indicated the official notice to it of the Argentina´s Foreign Ministry, "wanted to convey the interest of our country to achieve a breakthrough in terms of peace.". During the announcement, the Argentine Government "joint party with its partners of the Mercosur, Uruguay and Brazil, that the moment has arrived for recognizing Palestine like a free and independent State". Also, "Argentina declared its firm opposition to the policies of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories by the authorities of Israel", emphasized the official notice of the Chancellery, that indicates in addition, that the recognition reflects "the increasing consensus on status of Palestine". However, the statement was not made reference to Jerusalem, occupied Palestinian capital since 1967.
In the diplomatic relations of both countries, Palestine opened in 1996 the first Diplomatic Mission in Buenos Aires, headed by Ambassador Suhail Hani Daher Akel, who inaugurated the building of the first Palestine Embassy on November 15, 1999. For its part, Argentina by Decree of President Nestor Kirchner, in September of 2005, announced the opening of a Argentina Diplomatic Representation in Palestine, finally opened in 2008 in Ramallah.
