Asunto: This #HumanRightsDay we thank you for being part of the movement
Eladio ,
Today on #HumanRightsDay, we continue to unite with the global community and reject the Trump administration's repressive rhetoric and policies while uplifting the struggle of the 11 million undocumented individuals targeted in ways that criminalize their human rights to migration and family unity. The current administration has not only used dehumanizing, racist and xenophobic rhetoric to scapgoate millions of migrants as violent criminals who must be deported, but has also drastically increased immigration arrests inside the US - violently separating families and communities. According to numbers released by the US Department of Homeland Security on December 5th, 2017 from January 20th through the end of September 2017, there has been a 42% increase in the number of migrants arrested in the US compared to this time last year.
Thank you for being part of the movement for peace, justice and accountability in the Americas. We hope that you will continue to support the work to change oppressive US policies and to protect the dignity and autonomy of our communities.
For decades, US political, economic, and military intervention has created the conditions that force people in the Americas to flee their countries and communities. Together, we are advocating for the Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act; taking People Power to the streets to call for an end to Operation Streamline at the Federal Courthouse in Tucson, AZ; rallying in front of Eloy Detention Center in solidarity with our sisters and brothers separated from their loved ones; and protesting at the US/Mexico border wall using testimony, music and art to show that walls can separate us but they can't divide us!
This #HumanRightsDay reminds us that together we must continue to resist and demand peace and justice. We thank you again for being part of the movement and look forward to your continued support!
United in the struggle,
SOA Watch
